but I want to work with wildlife and exotic animals. How do I get into that field and what is the best graduate school to go to for the field? Thank you, Kasey
A: That's great news. I've posted a detailed answer on the site under the Careers in Zoological Medicine section. Briefly, my best advice is do the best you can in undergraduate school so you can be a competitve candidate for veterinary school. Your choice of vet school has a bit to do with where you live as there are only so many in the US. Once you're in vet school, focus on the best-known species first. The basis of zoo and wildlife medicine is dog, cat, horse, cow, and poultry medicine. Meanwhile, any and all experience you can gain with animals of any species will help you in your career and will, of course, help the patients!
