Where can I find out more about the wild animal species in the book and their conservation status?

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) maintains a website with updates about endangered species. The IUCN is the organization that releases the "Red List" of species on the brink of extinction.

This website is easy to search. Typing in a species name yields a long list of published reports and reference materials.

You can also search the Red List in detail online, though navigation of this site can be a bit of a challenge.

Another starting point for a search is Wikipedia. As everyone knows, the quality and accuracy of the entries on this site varies.  But by following the links within the entry or the references at the end, you'll find the experts.
